Puppies

Our 2027 waiting list is full, we can still add to the list, but you may not get a pup on this litter. We can direct you to another breeder we are supporting if that is the case. Most of our puppies are kept back for training for future sale to working homes and professional agencies such as police, fire, search and rescue, and of course - game recovery. We do occasionally have a pup or two that is appropriate for a pet home. In that case the below breeding bullet points will apply to you.

It is important to note: there are several Hanoverian lines in the USA that have demonstrated high sensitivity to things in their environment and react with a great deal of fear to people they don't know. This is genetic. We have carefully selected outgoing, social, purebred Hanoverians from Europe who possess high environmental thresholds. There are no US bred dogs nor are there any mix breed versions of the Hanoverian in our program. We do not breed crosses, nor do we select dogs for breeding that are not social or unsound environmentally. Please see our page on genetics, here.

We take breeding very seriously, we are not the breeder for you if:

  • You feel that you need to breed your puppy to make your money back

  • You will not listen to us, and only do it your way

  • You feel a dog should be kept in a kennel far away from family in the backyard

  • You feel a dog can and should be kept tied up to a tree, stake, or other item

  • You think that a dog is a human

  • You do not take our training and feeding advice, and consult the internet

  • You don't want or can't spend money on the correct gear/supplies/food for your new dog

  • You are buying a puppy from us to sell to someone else, who didn't want to contact us - don't even try it

  • You are heavy handed or have issues controlling your temper

Waiting List is Full

Hanoverian puppies mature slowly. The biggest mistake you can make is to add pressure to or rush the process of raising and training a Hanoverian Scenthound puppy.

The Italians say the Hanoverian matures "one leg per year". Which is to say the Hanoverian isn't fully mature until he is four years old!

You shouldn't compare your puppy to other breeds, there are no breeds, outside of the Bavarian, that compare. The Bavarian matures at a faster rate than the Hanoverian. Size plays some part of it. But no other breed is like the Hano, they are a very special dog.

Only after 18 months and not before, should you begin to judge your Hanoverian. Before then, he needs time to explore the world and socialize. Yes, training can start immediately, but there is no short cut to the fear stage "gauntlet" almost all Hanos experience.

He will begin to choose curiosity over fear, his drive and his DNA are finally coming together with his coordination, and by now, he should have good feelings about "work". Sometimes, it's like a light switch, and suddenly he's over it. Some never become actually social, but can take it in stride when part of their job. We are working as hard as we can to selectively breed the most naturally social Hanos, hoping to drastically improve their social ability.

We have had zero environmental issues with our Slovakian bred lines.

The fear stages are a tough part of the maturity process, but with the right leadership by you, and tightly controlling his experiences, he will come out on the other side of it ready to go regardless of the social aspect. Please go to our Groups section, for a deeper dive on this subject.
